Solana's decentralized exchange ecosystem has outtraded Coinbase and Kraken combined for weeks running, holding the number-two spot in global spot volume behind only Binance. Meme coins, tokenized equities, and the chain's fast, cheap settlement are driving the shift on-chain.
Solana's decentralized exchange ecosystem now trades more spot volume than Coinbase and Kraken combined, and it has held that lead through the summer of 2026. During the week of June 12 through 18, Solana DEX volume hit approximately $7.19 billion, while Coinbase posted roughly $6 billion and Kraken around $4 billion over the same week.
A blockchain outtrades a major exchange
Solana's DEX activity isn't run by a single company — it's a collection of protocols sharing one blockchain, together moving more dollar volume than Coinbase's entire operation. That week in June, Solana ranked third globally, behind Binance's roughly $34.39 billion and Bybit's roughly $9.47 billion. By late July, however, Solana had climbed to second place worldwide, trailing only Binance, and held that position for at least nine consecutive weeks through late August.
What is driving the volume
Three forces explain most of the shift: meme coin activity, tokenized equities, and Solana's technical architecture. Meme coins remain a steady source of retail engagement, and the network's low fees and fast settlement make it a natural home for high-frequency, low-margin token speculation.
Tokenized equities add a newer driver. The ability to trade representations of traditional stocks on-chain, around the clock and without a broker, has pulled in users who hadn't previously touched a DEX, and Solana's throughput keeps that experience fast enough to be practical for spot trading.
Centralized exchanges respond
Coinbase and Kraken have both moved to integrate access to Solana's DEX ecosystem inside their own apps — a sign that exchanges follow volume, and volume is increasingly happening on-chain. Still, Solana's rise doesn't mean centralized exchanges are finished: Binance's $34.39 billion weekly volume in mid-June was still roughly 4.8 times Solana's figure, even after Solana's nine-week run at number two.
