S&P Dow Jones Indices is expected to announce additions to the S&P 500 after Friday's close as part of its latest quarterly rebalancing. Twilio, Bloom Energy and Cheniere Energy are among the top contenders to join the index, spanning the technology, industrial and energy sectors.
If history is any guide, investors should expect three swaps this time around, according to Stephens analyst Melissa Roberts. Twilio could be elevated from the S&P MidCap 400 if it is among the names chosen.
Any changes would take effect before the market opens on Monday, Sept. 21. The S&P 500 itself traded at 7,715.39, down 0.42%.
