Strategy bought 950 bitcoin for $75.7 million last week, its first weekly purchase since late August, bringing total holdings to 846,000 BTC. The company also repurchased $174 million of its STRC preferred stock and disclosed the trades in a Monday SEC filing, while both bitcoin and MSTR shares rallied.
Strategy acquired 950 bitcoin for $75.7 million at an average price of $79,670 per coin last week, according to a Monday morning regulatory filing. The purchase marks the company's first weekly bitcoin buy since late August. It now holds 846,000 BTC in total.
Filing details the week's spending
Strategy disclosed the trade in a Form 8-K filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission covering the period between Sept. 14 and Sept. 20. Alongside the bitcoin purchase, the company repurchased about 1.77 million shares of its STRC preferred stock for $174 million during the same week. It also used $57.4 million to pay dividends on preferred stock and interest on outstanding debt.
As of Sept. 20, Strategy's USD Reserve stood at $5.04 billion and its USD Cash balance at $1.05 billion. The USD Cash balance fell from $1.30 billion and the USD Reserve from $5.10 billion a week earlier. The company reported no sales under its at-the-market offering programs during the period, meaning it raised no fresh funds that way.
Saylor teases the buy on X
Executive Chairman Michael Saylor posted an acquisition-tracker chart to X on Sunday with the caption "A little more orange" — a post that has typically preceded bitcoin purchase announcements the following day, though the company's buying pace has varied in recent weeks.
Shares and bitcoin both climb
MSTR shares rose 7% in pre-market trading as bitcoin climbed to $84,500, gaining 4.5% over 24 hours.
The stock had already gained 16.4% over the past week, closing Friday at $153.92, though it remains 54.2% lower over the past year despite the recent recovery.
