Samsung Electro-Mechanics will receive investment valued at 3.7 trillion won ($2.8 billion) from Tesla and Nvidia, the Maeil Business Newspaper reported on Thursday. The South Korean company plans to use the funds to build facilities making advanced chip substrates, known as FC-BGA, for AI semiconductors.
Nvidia puts in the larger share
Nvidia will invest 2.6 trillion won, while Tesla will contribute 1.1 trillion won, the paper reported, citing industry sources. Together the two commitments make up the 3.7 trillion won total.
The money would go toward production lines in the South Korean city of Sejong. Those lines would supply the substrates under a long-term contract, according to the report.
