Tesla still holds up to 8,430 BTC, according to Arkham data, worth about $960 million at Bitcoin's current market price. The stash has stayed around that level since 2022 and shows a gain of over $710 million.
Tesla still holds up to 8,430 BTC as of October 13, according to the latest data from the Arkham intelligence firm. The electric vehicle maker has kept its Bitcoin position through periods of market volatility that pushed many large holders out.
Tesla holds 8,430 BTC
Earlier, Tesla sold parts of its initial Bitcoin investment, made around 2021. Even so, at Bitcoin's current market price, the company's holdings are now worth about $960 million.
Bitcoin was a lot cheaper when Tesla first bought in 2021, so the firm still shows substantial paper gains. With its current holdings, Tesla remains one of Bitcoin's largest corporate holders.
From a $1.5 billion purchase to a four-year hold
Tesla made headlines in February 2021 when it disclosed a Bitcoin purchase worth $1.5 billion. Bitcoin's price climbed some weeks later, and the holdings were reportedly worth more than $2 billion, and around $2.5 billion at one point.
The company later reduced its exposure, however. It sold 4,670 BTC in 2021, and it made other major moves during the May 2022 market turmoil associated with the LUNA crash.
After several occasions of selling and buying more BTC, Tesla's stash has remained around 8,430 BTC since 2022. The stash was worth about $250 million at the time. At about $960 million now, it marks a gain of over $710 million in four years.
