Tesla has landed a 2,500-unit Semi order from ZET SCALE, the largest electric heavy commercial truck order in U.S. history. The deal's financing arm, ZET Financial, takes on the trucks' residual-value risk instead of fleet operators, a structure that could widen Tesla Semi's addressable market beyond this single order.

Tesla has won a 2,500-unit order for its electric Semi truck from ZET SCALE, the largest electric heavy commercial truck order in U.S. history. The order would nearly double the number of big electric trucks currently on U.S. roads, and ZET SCALE aims to put more than 10,000 on the road over time. Tesla is named primary supplier, with three other manufacturers as secondary suppliers, so it isn't yet confirmed that all 2,500 units will be Tesla Semis.

A record order dwarfs the previous deal

The ZET SCALE order dwarfs Tesla's earlier 500-truck deal with Einride, which had stood as the largest Tesla Semi order to date. Each Semi carries a price tag of nearly $300,000, and the vehicles remain new and largely untested over the long term. That uncertainty around battery degradation, competing technology, and long-term manufacturer viability has kept many fleet operators from committing to large orders.

ZET Financial removes the residual-risk barrier

A financing unit called ZET Financial is the entity placing the purchase orders, and it runs a leasing program built to take residual-value risk off fleet operators' books. Instead of a fleet buying a truck outright and betting on its resale value years later, ZET Financial buys the vehicles and leases them out on a more typical payment plan. This removes a barrier that has slowed adoption of new electric truck models, since fleets no longer need years of resale data to justify a purchase.

That structure also carries a trade-off for Tesla. Because ZET is buying in bulk, it can push for lower pricing, so margins on the order likely won't match those of smaller, less price-sensitive deals.

Production ramps toward a 50,000-unit target

Tesla's Semi Factory in Sparks, Nevada is ramping up volume production toward a total annual capacity of about 50,000 trucks. For 2026, though, production is estimated to reach only between 5,000 and 15,000 units, well short of that eventual capacity. A global rollout is also planned, with European deliveries expected to begin as soon as 2027.

With demand less of a constraint following the ZET SCALE agreement, investor attention now shifts toward whether Tesla can scale production to meet the orders already on its books.
