Tesla revealed its next-generation Roadster during a livestreamed event on Thursday, and the car's flying stunts quickly spread online as memes. In one demonstration, the car drove up a curved ramp until it was upside down, became airborne, engaged its thrusters at the bottom, and did a midair flip before landing.
In a second demonstration, the Roadster sped toward a line of cars, took off, did a kickflip over them, and landed on the other side. Business Insider described the demo as jaw-dropping, but the internet took minutes to turn the flying, kickflipping car into a meme.
The jokes focused on everyday road life. Freeway overhead signs give ample allowance for tall vehicles but not for flying cars, and some users put the traffic police in their prayers. Others were already thinking of how to get ahead of morning traffic.
One X user made an early prototype of a new road sign, since it is not yet clear whether roadster kickflips will be allowed on public roads. Another, more practical-minded user asked how Roadsters, in all their soaring glory, could be insured.
