Tether Gold perpetual contracts on Binance now generate roughly $2 billion in daily trading volume, up from about $1.5 million in December 2025. The pair briefly ranked as Binance's fifth most-traded perpetual in March 2026, putting tokenized gold alongside bitcoin and ether in trading activity.
XAUT perpetual futures on Binance are now generating roughly $2 billion in daily trading volume, against about $1.5 million in December 2025. That's a jump of more than 1,300x in a matter of months.
A rapid climb in trading activity
The contracts hit a peak daily trading volume of $6.4 billion on March 23, 2026. That spike made XAUT the fifth most-traded perpetual pair on Binance, sitting alongside BTC and ETH.
Binance offers XAUT only as a perpetual futures contract, not a spot trading pair. As a result, traders aren't buying tokenized gold to hold it — they're using leverage to speculate on price movements, the same way they'd trade any other perpetual. The distinction matters because XAUT perpetual contracts behave differently from XAUUSDT pairs, which track gold's spot market price directly.
What backs the token
XAUT is Tether Gold, issued by the company behind the USDT stablecoin. Each token is backed 1:1 by physical gold that meets London Bullion Market Association standards, held in vaults in Switzerland, and the token lives on both the Ethereum and Tron blockchains. Tether Gold's market capitalization grew by $237 million in the 30 days leading up to mid-August 2026.
Binance has been actively expanding its lineup in the real-world-asset segment, adding perpetual contracts tied to commodities and stocks. XAUT entering the top five most active perpetual pairs on Binance within a single week in early August 2026 shows that demand isn't just growing — it's growing fast enough to reshape exchange rankings.
