Two bitcoin wallets from 2013 moved a combined 416.69 BTC on Oct. 17, ending more than 13 years of dormancy. October's dormant-coin activity has slowed from August and September, and there is no clear evidence that any of these coins have been put up for sale.
Two wallets dating back to 2013 moved a combined 416.69 BTC on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026, for the first time since the coins were acquired. Both transactions appeared at block height 971894, and they landed within five seconds of each other, together worth approximately $34 million.
Two 2013 wallets wake up in the same block
The first transaction came from a wallet established on Nov. 12, 2013, which transferred 248.853 BTC across several unidentified addresses. Next, a wallet dating to Aug. 20, 2013, sent out 167.84 BTC after more than 13 years of inactivity.
MARA Pool mined the block that confirmed both transfers, according to the report. Onchain heuristics suggest the two moves may share an owner, because the 167.84 BTC transfer followed a pattern strikingly similar to the first.
October trails August and September
Saturday's awakening accounts for much of the 774.17 BTC in dormant coin movements that btcparser.com has documented so far this month. By comparison, 6,427.59 dormant BTC shifted from old wallets in August. September saw 5,401.841 BTC across 94 distinct transfers.
One move from earlier this month sits outside that tally. On Oct. 8, Galaxy Digital identified a wallet that transferred 100 BTC from coins first mined in 2010. Btcparser.com leaves it out because those coins had been commingled with other bitcoin, and the address had already recorded multiple transfers.
What the transfers do and do not show
The oldest wallet in this batch dates to July 11, 2012, and transferred exactly 25 BTC on Oct. 2 after approximately 14.2 years of dormancy. The slowdown in October may mean longtime holders are waiting to see where prices go next, rather than feeling more confident.
Moving old coins could signal plans to sell or reorganize holdings, and the timing suggests the transfers were carefully planned. For now, however, there is no clear evidence that any of these coins have been put up for sale.
