UBS Global Wealth Management raised its year-end target for the S&P 500 to 8,100, citing a stronger earnings outlook and confidence in sustained profit growth into next year. The bank also lifted its 2026 and 2027 earnings-per-share forecasts and its 2027 mid-year index target.
UBS Global Wealth Management raised its year-end target for the S&P 500 to 8,100, joining a growing chorus of global research firms forecasting the index above 8,000 by the end of 2026. The new target implies roughly 6% upside from Thursday's close of 7,641.16 points.
The wealth management arm of UBS Bank kept its "attractive" view on U.S. equities, pointing to resilient economic growth, supportive monetary policy and AI adoption as the three pillars holding up the bull market. It said AI-related companies remain key contributors, but recent performance has also been supported by improving conditions in more cyclical parts of the economy.
Earnings forecasts move higher
UBS raised its S&P 500 earnings-per-share forecasts to $350 for 2026 and $400 for 2027, up from its previous estimates of $335 and $375, respectively. The bank also raised its 2027 mid-year index target to 8,400 from 8,200.
The revised targets were laid out in a note dated Thursday. UBS is now among the banks projecting the index will close 2026 above the 8,000 mark, alongside its raised earnings and 2027 targets.
