Uniswap's UNI token jumped from $6.63 to $8.49 after the U.S. SEC opened a regulatory pathway for permissioned automated market makers to trade tokenized stocks. The move puts Uniswap v4's permissioned pools back in focus, though the SEC has not endorsed Uniswap directly. Traders now watch whether UNI can clear resistance near $8.86 and push toward $10.
UNI accelerated its rally after the SEC's move put Uniswap v4 back in focus, with many market watchers pointing to the pathway as a potential catalyst for the token.
SEC clears a path for permissioned AMM trading
The SEC issued a temporary framework for certain tokenised U.S. stocks, letting approved venues trade them through permissioned AMMs and liquidity pools. The agency also grants conditional regulatory relief to eligible liquidity providers supporting those pools. However, the SEC has not approved Uniswap or endorsed Uniswap v4 directly, but it has created a regulatory pathway for compliant tokenised-stock trading through permissioned AMM infrastructure.
That distinction still matters for Uniswap because the protocol already built infrastructure for this market. Uniswap launched Permissioned Pools in July with firms including Superstate, Securitize, and Dowgo, and these pools can restrict access to approved wallets through on-chain compliance rules. As a result, the new SEC framework gives Uniswap v4 direct relevance to a market it had already positioned for.
UNI breaks above $8.50 as open interest climbs
UNI extended its breakout after clearing the $6.50 resistance zone, reaching $8.86 before closing near $8.53. The move came with higher trading activity, keeping bullish momentum elevated. Open interest climbed to 11.21 million UNI, showing stronger participation across the derivatives market.
The RSI reached an overbought reading of 76.24, which is bullish but also raises the risk of short-term consolidation. Buyers therefore need to defend the breakout zone for UNI to hold its upward momentum.
Can UNI reach $12 this month?
Attention now shifts back to the $10 psychological level. The chart shows immediate resistance between $8.63 and $8.86, and a sustained break above that range could push the rally to $9.30 and then $10.15. A breakout there could open the door to a $12 target, while a failure may drag UNI back toward $7.5 to $7.78.
