The Navy is preparing for extended carrier deployments in response to the ongoing conflict with Iran, according to recent announcements by the Chief of Naval Operations and the Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy. The plans point to a commitment to protracted, high-intensity operations that may involve keeping multiple carriers in the Middle East for extended periods.

This comes amid sustained military operations following the U.S.-Iran war that erupted earlier this year, and it signals a posture of escalation rather than routine deterrence. As a result, prediction markets have pared back the odds of Iran shutting its airspace entirely.

Traders now price the probability of a full Iranian airspace closure by August 31 at 1.8%, down from 2% the day before and 6% a week earlier. The market for a closure by December 31 has dropped to 17.5%, from 28% a day earlier. Traders appear to read the extended deployments as a sign of continuing conflict rather than resolution, which lowers the odds they assign to a full shutdown.

Key indicators to watch include official statements from Iran's Civil Aviation Organization and any new developments in U.S.-Iran relations, which could shift the calculus before the August 31 deadline.
