Visa is in late-stage talks to buy digital asset infrastructure provider Fireblocks, according to Axios. The reported price of about $2.5 billion sits well below the company's 2022 valuation of $8 billion.
Visa is holding late-stage discussions to acquire Fireblocks for approximately $2.5 billion, according to Axios, which cited multiple sources. Fireblocks provides stablecoin infrastructure and digital asset custody services.
The company was founded in 2018 and builds infrastructure that lets financial institutions and fintech firms custody, move, tokenize and settle digital assets and stablecoins. Its platform is used by more than 2,500 institutions, including Worldpay and Euronet, both payments providers in Visa's network.
The reported price is far below the company's 2022 valuation. Fireblocks reached an $8 billion valuation in January 2022 after raising $550 million in a Series E round.
The two companies already have ties. Visa and Fireblocks have both taken part in the Open Standard stablecoin initiative, and former Visa executive Vasant Prabhu joined Fireblocks in January 2025 as it expanded into payments and traditional finance.
A deal would give Visa a foothold in technology that supports the movement and custody of digital assets, as interest in stablecoins among established financial institutions has grown rapidly.
