WTI crude oil is trading just above the $96.50 support on its 5-hour chart, while momentum has turned bearish. A confirmed break below that level raises the risk of a slide toward $92.80.
Crude Oil WTI sits at $96.98, just above the $96.50 support level where bulls and bears collide. The 5-hour chart shows price bouncing off that zone. A confirmed break below it raises risk for a sharper slide toward $92.80.
Support cluster under pressure
The tug-of-war is unfolding at a $96.40–$96.50 support cluster, backed by SuperTrend, short-term moving averages and a key Fibonacci level. Price is also inside the Ichimoku cloud, which offers structural support from $94.38 to $97.60.
Still, bullish conviction is fraying. The MACD just crossed bearish, and a lower high at $101.90 signals lost upward steam.
Levels the analysis watches
If price settles below $96.40 on a 5-hour close, bears get the green light for a possible correction. The targets run to $92.80, a Fibonacci level, then $90.00, a psychological level, and $87.20, a swing low.
On the other side, a sustainable bounce that pushes price above $98.00 would negate the bear case and hint at a rally back to $101.90. Between $97.00 and $100.00, the analysis expects choppy trading.
Indicators flag caution
The ATR stands at 1.58 (1.63%), which means short-term moves can be quick and sharp. The MFI reads 82.56, an overbought level that calls for caution on fresh long positions. Volume is declining, and pullbacks on low volume can produce fakeouts.
