XRP Asia launched October 3, 2026, debuting at the Grand Hyatt Seoul during Korea Blockchain Week with Woori Bank and Kakao Bank on stage alongside Ripple. The new regional body, led by ex-Hedera Foundation VP Sabrina Tachdjian, arrives as the XRP Ledger's Permission Delegation and Batch amendments enter their activation window.
XRP Asia launched on October 3, 2026, with a live session at the Grand Hyatt Seoul during Korea Blockchain Week. Woori Bank and Kakao Bank joined Ripple's Tatsuya Kohrogi on stage, putting two South Korean banks visibly behind the launch.
The new body's mandate is to accelerate adoption of the XRP Ledger across the region, support builders, and bring banks onto the rails. Leading it is President Sabrina Tachdjian, who previously served as VP of Fintech and Payments at the Hedera Foundation. That regulated-finance background matters as XRP Asia tries to move institutions past pilots and into production.
Korean Banks Are Already Running Live Rails
The launch builds on deployments already in production rather than promises. Jeonbuk Bank has already replaced multi-day SWIFT windows with real-time Ripple Payments. Shortly after, SBI and Kyobo completed a direct yen-to-won stablecoin transfer that skipped the dollar leg for the first time in the Japan-Korea corridor.
Retail demand backs that institutional push. XRP has repeatedly led volume on Upbit, including stretches where weekly exchange volume hit roughly $8 billion on South Korea's top exchange. In Japan, SBI Ripple Asia registered a regulated token issuance platform under Japan's Fund Settlement Act in March 2026, and SBI Holdings has also signed a deal to acquire Bitbank.
Protocol Upgrades Add Bank-Grade Tooling
The launch's timing lines up with two protocol changes that matter for banks: Permission Delegation and Batch are inside the early-October activation window on the XRP Ledger. Permission Delegation lets one account grant another narrowly scoped rights, such as payments or compliance approvals, without sharing master keys — built for bank-style separation of duties. Batch allows grouped transactions to settle or fail together, enabling atomic multi-party flows.
RippleX has shipped an audited Batch V1.1, and the amendment has now entered its validator vote, a step toward near-activation. The ledger's institutional credibility extends beyond Asia too: South Africa's Absa became the first African bank to offer XRPL-based custody, and the Bank for International Settlements has used the XRP Ledger to anchor official statistics.
The XRP Ledger Foundation welcomed the new entity, noting that APAC is already one of the most active parts of the XRPL ecosystem. Ripple is eyeing the $155 trillion cross-border payments market, and Seoul's bank lineup suggests Korean institutions are now a named part of that plan.
