The XRP Ledger Foundation says a recently patched ledger bug created no new XRP, and supply remains at 100 billion. The fix shipped in the 3.4.1 upgrade, while XRP trades at $1.41.
The XRP Ledger Foundation (XRPLF) confirmed that no new XRP was created by the recently patched ledger bug. Total supply stays fixed at 100 billion tokens since launch, the foundation said, and the 3.4.1 upgrade closed the security issue.
What the bug allowed and how it was found
J. Ayo Akinyele, head of engineering at Ripple, said the vulnerability sat in the payments engine since the current engine was written in 2015. An attacker could have created spendable XRP by setting up hundreds of specially crafted, uneconomic offers on the built-in decentralized exchange and consuming them in a single payment.
However, the bug never reached an exploit. Akinyele said it was discovered through the bug bounty program before anyone could use it, and Veria AI researchers, including Cayden Liao, reported it last month.
Supply stays near 99.986 billion XRP
The foundation added that all account balances are public on the ledger, and that it and community members have verified the supply throughout the network's history. It also said transaction fee burning makes supply deflationary, at almost 99.986 billion XRP today.
Because the fix was security-sensitive, the Foundation, RippleX, core developers and validators reached social consensus to release the patch quickly in the emergency xrpld 3.4.1 release. The foundation also noted that advances in AI make long-dormant bugs easier for attackers and defenders to find, and it committed to expanded formal verification, AI adversarial testing and an enhanced bug bounty program.
XRP trades at $1.41 as derivatives sentiment mixes
XRP rose 1% in 24 hours to $1.41, with a 24-hour low of $1.39 and a high of $1.42. Trading volume increased 40% over the same period.
Derivatives data from CoinGlass showed mixed sentiment. Total XRP futures open interest dropped 0.45% to $3.07 billion in the last four hours, though it climbed almost 0.80% over 24 hours.
Analysts remain bullish and predict further upside after XRP broke above a key resistance level, following a rebound of more than 7% in recent days.
