The XRP Ledger recorded a sharp jump in on-chain activity over two days, with new accounts up 535.2% and payment volume up 894.3%. Active users fell even as new wallets and payments surged, pointing to growth concentrated among a smaller, more active group. The activity spike coincides with XRP's price recovery from its August lows.
The XRP Ledger added 535.2% more newly created accounts over a two-day span, reaching 2,900. Active accounts climbed 218.1% to 15,300 over the same span. Active users, however, dropped 70.6% to 140 thousand over the same period.
Transactions and payments jump
Successful transactions rose 80.8% to 1.7 million, while total transactions increased 138.7% to 2.4 million. Payments alone rose 108.9% to 1.2 million.
Ledger throughput moved higher too. Ledgers closed rose 288% to 20.4K, while transactions per ledger fell 38.5% to 116.47. This pattern is consistent with faster ledger close times spreading the same or higher transaction load across more, smaller batches. The ledger interval itself stayed essentially flat, up just 0.1% to 389 seconds.
Value transferred and fees burned
Value moving across the network also increased significantly. Payment volume rose 894.3% to approximately 704.2 million XRP. XRP burned as network fees rose 225.7% to 300.3 XRP. Each transaction on the XRP Ledger destroys a small fee, so higher throughput results in more fees burned.
Price context
The spike in activity coincides with a resurgence of XRP's strength. XRP/USD rose from roughly $1.05 to almost $1.70 intraday in late August before consolidating, after trading in a protracted downtrend for most of the second and third quarters. After reaching highs around $1.65, the price has since risen back above its key moving averages, most recently trading close to $1.53.
Taken together, the rise in new accounts, payment volume, and fee burn points to a significant increase in network usage. Yet the decline in active users raises the possibility that the growth is concentrated among a smaller but much more active group of users rather than a wider expansion of the user base.
