Former Ripple CTO David Schwartz says XRP could eventually overtake Bitcoin's market cap, but only if the crypto market grows much bigger overall and XRP expands faster than Bitcoin. The math behind that scenario is steep: XRP would need to multiply many times over just to match Bitcoin's current valuation.
XRP would need to climb to roughly $24-$25 a token just to match Bitcoin's current market cap, according to a fresh breakdown of the numbers behind a claim from former Ripple CTO David Schwartz. Schwartz, the longtime Ripple executive and XRP Ledger architect, argued during a recent X Spaces discussion that XRP could eventually surpass Bitcoin by market capitalization.
He said the flip wouldn't happen because Bitcoin collapsed; instead, it would require the broader crypto market to become dramatically more successful, while XRP grows considerably faster than Bitcoin thanks to the XRP Ledger's functionality, adoption, and real-world usage. Ethereum previously carried similar "Flippening" speculation against Bitcoin, but that scenario never materialized.
Bitcoin's market cap sits at about $1.55 trillion today. XRP's stands at roughly $87 billion, making Bitcoin about 18 times larger. If Bitcoin's valuation held unchanged, XRP would need to climb toward a $1.55 billion market cap simply to level the playing field. At today's circulating supply, that implies a surge to $24-$25 from XRP's current $1.40.
