Aave's total deposits crossed $30 billion on August 22, a 30% jump for the third quarter, founder Stani Kulechov said. Active loans on the protocol run at roughly $10 billion, and the newer V4 deployment has grown from $50 million to over $400 million since May.

Stani Kulechov, the founder and CEO of Aave, announced on August 22 that total deposits on the protocol crossed $30 billion, declaring: "liquidity is back."

The figure represents a 30% increase in deposits for the third quarter of the year. Total deposits count every asset supplied to Aave, including capital that has been borrowed against and redeployed, while DeFiLlama's total value locked reading sat around $17.6 billion as of mid-August under its own methodology. Active loans on the protocol are running at roughly $10 billion, meaning much of the deposited capital is already at work in the ecosystem.

Aave V4, the protocol's latest architecture upgrade, saw deposits climb from around $50 million in early May to over $400 million by mid-August. Lifetime deposits on Aave have now totaled $3.46 trillion since the protocol launched, a figure that puts the current $30 billion snapshot in perspective.

Aave has been higher before. Net deposits surpassed $50 billion during mid-2025. TVL readings also exceeded $40 billion in early 2026, so the current $30 billion sits below those peaks and Kulechov's "liquidity is back" framing carries some nuance: the protocol is recovering from a drawdown, not setting a record.

The protocol has a longer history than many participants remember. Aave began life as ETHLend in 2017, a peer-to-peer lending platform on Ethereum, before rebranding to Aave in 2018 and pivoting to a liquidity pool model. Governance runs through the AAVE token, which lets holders vote on protocol parameters, risk configurations, and treasury allocations.
