ASML said some customers are interested in placing orders for 2029 and 2030 as it reported third-quarter profit above expectations. The company also said its planned 2027 and 2028 supply will not fully meet customer demand and raised the low end of its 2026 sales forecast.
ASML said Wednesday that some customers are expressing interest in ordering its semiconductor tools for 2029 and 2030. The announcement came with third-quarter profit that beat expectations.
CEO Christophe Fouquet tied the demand to AI spending. According to CNBC, he said in a press release that customers are driven by views on the size and duration of AI investment, adding that some are "expressing an interest in placing orders with us for 2029 and even 2030."
Profit beats, sales miss estimates
ASML's third-quarter net profit was 4.96 billion euros versus 4.1 billion euros expected, according to LSEG consensus estimates. Net sales, however, came in at 11.66 billion euros against 11.72 billion euros expected.
The company also narrowed its full-year revenue forecast to net sales of 44 billion euros to 45 billion euros, up from a previous low end of 43 billion euros. For the fourth quarter, it expects net sales of 14.2 billion euros to 15.2 billion euros, and the top of that range is above the LSEG consensus of 14.2 billion euros.
Crypto Briefing reported that ASML guided to a gross margin of around 57% for the fourth quarter.
Supply falls short in 2027 and 2028
Fouquet said the supply planned for 2027 and 2028 will not fully meet customer demand. ASML is looking at ways to raise 2028 capacity beyond the 30% increase it had previously forecast.
ASML is the only company that produces extreme ultraviolet lithography machines, a key tool TSMC and others use to make advanced chips. During the quarter, Samsung and TSMC committed to using its High NA EUV machines.
Shares were around 2% higher in early European trade and have rallied 56% this year. ASML also said it expects China to account for 20% of its total business, unchanged from its prior forecast.
