Binance will pause deposits and withdrawals on the Ethereum network for about an hour on August 27 for wallet maintenance. Days later, on September 3, the exchange delists ICON, Secret, and Storj, removing all three tokens' spot trading pairs.
Ethereum Network Pauses for Maintenance
Binance said it will briefly suspend deposits and withdrawals on the Ethereum network on August 27 to carry out wallet maintenance, a process the exchange expects to take about one hour. After that window closes, the company said, deposits, withdrawals, and normal operations resume as usual for users of the network.
Trading of tokens on the Ethereum network continues throughout the pause, and Binance said it will handle all the technical steps involved on behalf of affected users. The exchange framed the work as routine, adding that upgrades of this kind typically carry no significant complications for clients.
This is not new territory for the exchange. Binance supported similar wallet maintenance on the Ethereum blockchain in May this year, then months later paused TRX deposits and withdrawals for a comparable process. Both earlier windows closed without reported issues, and operations were quickly restored each time.
Three Altcoins Head for the Exit
Beyond the maintenance window, Binance decided to terminate all services for ICON (ICX), Secret (SCRT), and Storj (STORJ), with the change taking effect on September 3, when all spot trading pairs of the three altcoins will be removed.
Binance said the delisting follows its routine review of listed assets, which weighs factors including the project team's commitment to the project, network stability against attacks, community engagement, trading volume, and liquidity. The exchange is known for thoroughly reviewing every digital asset on its platform against that same set of criteria before deciding which ones stay listed.
