Former Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ) urged the crypto industry to stop infighting as it deals with the aftermath of Binance's $6.34 billion hack. He argued that digital assets are tightly connected, so trouble at one affects all. He also warned users about several security threats.
Changpeng Zhao, known as CZ, called for more unity across the crypto space, saying bickering between factions makes little sense because digital assets are tightly connected. The former Binance CEO said in a tweet that in-fighting in this space makes zero sense.
He closed the post with a short plea, which came after his message that most crypto assets go up and down together. According to CZ: "We need to be: decentralized but united."
CZ responds to a post on exchange crises
CZ was reacting to a social media post that pointed to past exchange crises and their effect on token prices. The post cited the FTX fiasco in 2022, the WazirX hack in 2024 and the recent security breach at Bitget as examples of how exchange troubles can result in significant market losses.
The discussion also covered the hack at Binance on Oct. 29. Binance suffered a $6.34 billion hack after hackers broke into the exchange's internal wallet signing infrastructure, and Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP and Solana were among the assets impacted.
Binance has said it will bear the losses rather than pass them to customers. In an update on Nov. 3, the exchange said around $2.85 billion in stolen funds had been frozen or intercepted, and 98% of affected token assets had been replenished.
CZ flags security risks
CZ has also spoken out on cybersecurity in recent days. On Nov. 5, he advised traders to revoke API keys for the third-party trading platform SignalPlus after reports of a possible security breach.
He also warned followers about fake websites posing as Trust Wallet, noting that people shouldn't mistake domains ending in ".cam" for legitimate ".com" ones. In addition, he asked iPhone users to keep their OS up to date following reports of vulnerabilities that could leave crypto holders exposed to malicious attacks.
