Bitcoin fell below $82,000 on Monday, and Coinglass data shows long positions accounted for most of the $488.61 million in liquidations over 24 hours. Ethereum, solana and XRP also declined as traders await Wednesday's CPI report.

Bitcoin slipped below the $82,000 threshold on Monday, Oct. 12, 2026, after an earlier high near $84,254. Leveraged crypto traders took the brunt of it.

Longs absorb most of the liquidations

By approximately 7:30 p.m. Eastern time, Coinglass figures showed $488.61 million in leveraged positions wiped out over 24 hours, hitting 118,142 traders. Long positions made up $406.48 million of that, or 83.2%, while shorts accounted for $82.14 million.

Ethereum led individual assets with $115.19 million in liquidations, followed by bitcoin at $106.61 million. The largest single liquidation was a $9.65 million bitcoin long on Binance, executed at $81,772.

Outflows, yields and inflation worries weigh

Bitcoin's retreat appears to reflect overlapping pressures. U.S. spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds recorded approximately $679 million to $681 million in net outflows during the Oct. 5-9 trading week.

Meanwhile, the benchmark 10-year U.S. Treasury yield climbed toward 5.24% to 5.3%, which makes interest-bearing assets more attractive relative to bitcoin. Elevated crude oil prices, fueled partly by renewed Middle East tensions, have also complicated the inflation outlook.

Traders now wait for the consumer price index report, with producer price data due Thursday. Bitcoin has repeatedly failed to reclaim the $84,000 to $87,000 range, which has shifted attention to support between $81,000 and $82,000.

Altcoins fall harder

Bitcoin was not alone. Ethereum traded near $2,461, down 2.79% over 24 hours and 9.34% over seven days.

Solana lost 4.39% daily and 12.09% weekly, while XRP declined 4.33% to $1.34. Crypto Briefing separately reported that Bitcoin's support zone sits between $81,300 and $82,000, a band where buyers have previously stepped in.
