Bitcoin jumped to a weekly peak of $81,000 on Wednesday, but sales tied to Trump Media and MARA Holdings and reports about Iran could halt the rally. Some of these signals could even reverse its trajectory.
Bitcoin surged to a weekly peak of $81,000 once US trading hours opened on Wednesday, after it slumped to a multi-week low of $75,600 just 12 hours earlier. However, some worrying signs could halt its progress or even reverse its trajectory.
Trump Media and MARA move coins
Citing Arkham Intelligence data, Lookonchain reported that Trump Media Group, the entity behind Truth Social, moved 4,259 BTC, worth over $340 million, to Crypto.com. The likely intention is to dispose of the assets.
This is far from the first such transfer in recent months. In early August, wallets linked to Trump Media reportedly sold $165 million worth of bitcoin, and the seven-month selling spree reached $545 million at an average price of under $75,000. The entity accumulated its stash during the 2025 bull run at prices of $118,500, spending $1.37 billion to acquire 11,542 BTC, so each sale booked a fresh loss.
Bitcoin miner MARA Holdings is seemingly disposing of its BTC as well. The company transferred over $130 million worth of the cryptocurrency to several platforms, including Galaxy Digital and Copper. A week earlier, MARA moved several batches of 1,000 BTC to BitGo.
Iran reports could weigh on risk assets
CryptoPotato calls the sales nothing unusual. The next reason, however, could be far more troubling for risk-on assets if it comes to fruition.
Just a few days after the US midterm elections ended, with President Trump's party suffering a heavy defeat, reports emerged that the administration and the US Military are finishing preparation for a possible resumption of major combat operations in Iran.
