Bitcoin's market capitalization has overtaken Tesla and Samsung, placing it among the world's most valuable assets. The move follows a four-day rally that pushed the token past $81,000 over the weekend, even after a Fed rate hike and a stalled crypto bill in the Senate.

Bitcoin's market cap climbed to $1.615 trillion, according to CompaniesMarketCap. That puts it ahead of Tesla's $1.438 trillion valuation and Samsung's $1.237 trillion valuation. Bitcoin now ranks 13th among all tracked assets, with Tesla and Samsung sitting in 14th and 15th.

The rally follows a rebound that sent Bitcoin to a high of $81,914 on Saturday. BTC's market capitalization reached about $1.63 trillion on September 20, 2026, after the token traded above $81,000 over the weekend, according to CoinGecko historical data.

Bitcoin bulls defy the trend

Several developments this past week threatened to pull the market down, yet prices held. Wednesday's Fed rate hike was largely seen as a headwind for crypto and other risk assets, but it failed to deter bulls as Bitcoin and other crypto assets rose regardless.

On Tuesday, the Clarity Act received only 49 votes in the Senate, falling short of the 60 required for passage. Bitcoin temporarily dipped below $74,887 on Tuesday, only to soon stabilize. The relatively contained sell-off indicated that traders had already factored in a large portion of the probability of failure.

SEC move adds fuel

In a positive development that further boosted crypto prices, the Securities and Exchange Commission issued an order creating a regulatory pathway for certain trading venues to issue tokenized representations of publicly traded U.S. stocks, effective immediately.

The crypto market soared higher to close the week as it looked past the global shift to tighter monetary policy. The SEC's innovation exemption offset the Clarity Act's failure, and Bitcoin sharply surged past $81,000 on Friday. Its four-day rise from Wednesday's low of $74,962 culminated in Saturday's high of $81,914 before profit-taking set in.

At the time of writing, Bitcoin was down 1.02% over the past 24 hours to $80,762.
