Cardano's CIP-0113 programmable-token standard went live on mainnet. It lets issuers attach compliance rules to native assets without a hard fork. The Cardano ledger enforces those rules during transfers, minting and burning.
Cardano's CIP-0113 standard went live on mainnet on October 7, 2026, following development work and multiple independent security audits. The standard targets issuers of stablecoins, tokenized funds, bonds and other regulated assets. It places compliance conditions and transfer rules directly on native Cardano assets, using the network's existing native-asset infrastructure instead of a separate token system.
CIP-0113 brings ledger-enforced compliance to Cardano assets
Token rules under CIP-0113 can cover KYC, AML, sanctions screening, freezes, seizure or confiscation, and transfer restrictions. The Cardano Foundation said the ledger enforces those rules during transfers, minting and burning. The controls operate at the transaction level rather than relying solely on an off-chain process or separate token-management system.
How ownership changes under the EUTXO model
According to the CIP-0113 specification, the standard makes ownership changes conditional on successful script execution. It relies on existing Cardano primitives such as native tokens, stake credentials and the withdraw-zero pattern. Rules attached to an asset can be checked when a transaction moves it.
Cardano said the tokens remain native assets in the EUTXO model, with script execution added to ownership changes. As a result, the compliance logic sits alongside the established asset and transaction model rather than in a separate blockchain or a new token type.
No hard fork, and early ecosystem support
CIP-0113 did not require a hard fork, according to a Cardano announcement. Because the tokens remain native Cardano assets, wallets, block explorers and applications can handle them through existing Cardano infrastructure.
The Cardano Foundation named Eternl, GeroWallet, CardanoScan and BloxBean as ecosystem-support projects accompanying the launch. The Foundation also said the Swiss Capital Markets and Technology Association recognizes CIP-0113 programmable asset tokens as a smart-contract equivalent to CMTAT for its certification scheme.
