LINK trades near $8.18 as its price gets squeezed into one of the narrowest ranges of recent weeks, with Bollinger Bandwidth sitting near multi-month lows. The chart has yet to pick a direction, but Chainlink's reserve mechanism keeps adding to the token's longer-term demand.
Chainlink's LINK token traded near $8.18 as volatility continued to contract, leaving the token inside one of its narrowest trading ranges in recent weeks. The setup suggests a larger move could be approaching, but the chart has yet to confirm whether buyers or sellers will take control.
LINK stays boxed between $8.00 and $8.75
LINK remains confined between the lower Bollinger Band at $8.00 and the upper band at $8.75.
The token also continues to trade below its 20-day moving average, marked by the middle Bollinger Band at $8.38, showing buyers have not yet regained short-term control.
Meanwhile, Bollinger Bandwidth has fallen to 8.88, one of its lowest readings in recent months. Shrinking bandwidth reflects declining volatility and often precedes a larger price move, though it does not indicate which direction that move will take.
What would confirm a breakout
A daily close above $8.75 would push LINK past the upper Bollinger Band and potentially open the way toward the psychological $9 level. Even then, stronger trading volume and expanding bandwidth would be needed to confirm buyers are driving the move rather than triggering a brief spike.
Conversely, a daily close below $8.00 would break the lower band and raise the risk of another decline toward the $7.50-$7.70 support area. At present, the chart supports neither scenario.
Chainlink Reserve adds long-term support
Beyond the chart, Chainlink's token economics provide additional context. According to the project's official economics dashboard, more than 42 million LINK is currently staked. The Chainlink Reserve holds over 4 million LINK, and it accumulates LINK by converting revenue generated through enterprise adoption and on-chain services via Payment Abstraction, creating an ongoing source of demand tied to network usage rather than speculative buying.
However, the reserve should not be viewed as a short-term price catalyst. Breakout confirmation must still come from price action, trading volume, and expanding market participation.
Until a decisive close above $8.75 or below $8.00 arrives, alongside stronger volume and improving sentiment, the setup reads as pre-breakout consolidation rather than a confirmed uptrend.
