CME's regulated ADA futures complete six months of trading on August 9, a milestone that could speed SEC review of Grayscale's pending spot Cardano ETF. A 75-day review window from that date points to October 23 as a potential decision date, while ADA has surged over 20% in the past week.

Cardano enters a pivotal week for its U.S. ETF prospects. CME's regulated ADA futures are set to complete six months of trading on August 9, a milestone that could open a faster SEC review path for Grayscale's pending spot Cardano ETF. The timing coincides with a rally: ADA leads major altcoins with a 20% weekly gain.

What the Six-Month Futures Mark Means

CME Group launched ADA futures on February 9, 2026, giving Cardano a regulated futures market under CFTC oversight. That launch matters now because the SEC's generic listing standards let a crypto asset qualify for a spot ETF once it has traded on a regulated futures market for at least six months. August 9 marks the end of that window, clearing one of the key eligibility hurdles for a spot Cardano ETF — though it does not guarantee approval on that date.

If an application moves forward from there, a 75-day review period points to October 23 as a potential decision window.

Grayscale's Filing Raises the Stakes

Grayscale is already pursuing a Cardano ETF of its own: the asset manager has filed for the Grayscale Cardano Trust ETF (GADA), which would hold ADA directly and track its market price. That filing makes the August 9 milestone more significant. With the six-month futures requirement met and an application already on file, Cardano could move a step closer to a spot ETF once the SEC begins reviewing eligible applications.

A security question still hangs over the filing, however. The SEC previously named ADA in its 2023 lawsuits against Coinbase and Binance, arguing the token could qualify as a security, and that uncertainty remains a risk for any spot ADA ETF filing. The CME milestone therefore improves Cardano's case without guaranteeing SEC approval.

ADA's Rally Adds Momentum

ADA was trading near $0.1985. It has surged over 20% in the past seven days, one of the strongest moves among major cryptocurrencies.

Whale activity has reinforced the bullish signal: 10x Research found large holders accumulated more than 240 million ADA within five days. ADA was also trading above its seven-day and 30-day moving averages, a sign that short-term momentum has improved.

Traders are now watching whether the ETF narrative can sustain the recovery.
