Core Scientific sold 816 BTC in Q3 2026, leaving 32 BTC on its books. The company plans to stop mining Bitcoin by December 31, 2026, as colocation revenue for AI and high-performance computing takes over.
Core Scientific sold 816 BTC during the third quarter of 2026, which left it with 32 BTC as of September 30. The sale represented 96% of the Bitcoin the company held, according to its Q3 2026 earnings report.
Management also confirmed on the earnings call that it plans to stop mining Bitcoin entirely by December 31, 2026.
Holdings shrink from thousands of coins to 32
At the end of 2025, the company held 2,537 BTC. Its holdings peaked in 2022 at more than 9,600 BTC.
The balance sheet reflects the same slide. The value of digital assets it carries fell to $2.7 million, down from $222 million at the end of the prior year.
Mining is shrinking too. By the end of September 2026, the mining fleet was nearly 50% smaller than at the close of 2025.
Colocation drives Q3 2026 revenue
Core Scientific reported total Q3 2026 revenue of $232.9 million, a 187% jump from the same quarter a year earlier.
Colocation brought in $215.4 million, roughly 92% of the total. Mining contributed approximately $17.5 million, about 7.5%.
Billed colocation capacity reached 485 MW. The company has also secured energy contracts with CoreWeave and AMD that total a combined 1,120 MW.
A post-bankruptcy reinvention
The company emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy in late 2023 and has since leaned into data centers and AI.
Management now plans to complete its pivot to high-density colocation services in 2027, once mining wraps up at the end of 2026.
With 32 BTC left and mining set to end, the company's direct exposure to Bitcoin's price is now minimal, according to Crypto Briefing.
