Analyst DonAlt, known for correctly calling XRP's 2024–2025 rally, has gone long on Ethereum and switched to a HODL strategy after the weekly chart cleared a multi-month resistance zone. He built his position at $1,878 in mid-August 2026 and plans to take profits on most of it at $3,000, a target shaped by profits he missed holding XRP too long.
DonAlt, the trader credited with forecasting XRP's rally from the $0.50–$0.70 range to peaks of around $3.50–$3.66, has now built a large long position in Ethereum and says he will hold rather than trade it. In a recent October review, DonAlt said: "No serious resistance left IMO. I'm just gonna ignore everything and HODL."
A breakout above a multi-month range
He opened most of his long position at $1,878 in mid-August 2026, near the upper boundary of the $2,000–$2,200 resistance zone, choosing to enter before a confirmed breakout rather than wait for a perfect bottom. On the weekly chart, ETH/USD has since broken through the $2,300–$2,700 range, which now serves as support. Above current levels, DonAlt notes there is almost no significant historical selling volume on higher time frames.
A pragmatic target shaped by the XRP trade
Looking further out, DonAlt's macro outlook points to around $10,000 for Ethereum, and the chart's technical target sits near $4,000. Even so, he plans to take profits on most of his position at $3,000. The decision traces back to his XRP trade, where his highest macro target of $6.90 was never reached before the coin entered a deep reversal, even after XRP had rallied to $3.50–$3.66 from the $0.50–$0.70 range.
Why he is holding instead of trading the swings
The shift from active short-term speculation to a HODL approach reflects the current state of the chart: once a higher-timeframe structure completes an accumulation phase and turns into an uptrend, trading intraday swings tends to increase transaction costs in fees. Holding a position in line with Ethereum's established medium-term trend is, in his view, the more mathematically sound approach for a large position.
