The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose nearly 200 points Monday as oil prices and Treasury yields fell. Alphabet and Nvidia led gains among the index's tech-linked names, while an S&P 500 climb and a Nasdaq surge outpaced the blue-chip index.
The Dow industrials rose nearly 200 points, or 0.4% Monday morning. The broader stock market moved higher as commodity and bond markets eased.
Alphabet, Amgen Lead Dow Gainers
Alphabet and Amgen led the Dow's advance, each rising nearly 2%. Nvidia climbed around 1%, part of a cluster of names gaining at a similar pace. Chevron paced the downside, falling almost 2% as oil prices dropped.
Beyond the Dow, the S&P 500 climbed 1% in morning trading. The Nasdaq composite rose 1.6% as chip and semiconductor stocks shined early.
Inside the Dow, Caterpillar also rallied more than 2% in premarket trading, while Amazon climbed roughly 0.5%. The SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF, up more than 57% already this year, rose around 2%.
Oil Slide, Yields Ease Pressure
West Texas Intermediate crude skidded 5% to around $95.30 a barrel, threatening a fourth straight losing session. The 10-year Treasury yield dipped 3 basis points to 4.97%. Bitcoin, meanwhile, vaulted nearly 6% to about $86,000 per token.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and China Vice Premier He Lifeng held talks Sunday in New York on trade and artificial intelligence, ahead of a summit this week between President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping. The SPDR S&P Oil & Gas Exploration & Production ETF, meanwhile, fell around 2% amid hope for diplomatic progress on ending the U.S.-Iran war when the U.N. General Assembly meets in New York this week.
Tech Fund Clears New Buy Point
The iShares U.S. Technology ETF is offering a fresh entry after hitting an all-time high, clearing a flat-base buy point at 261.01. The fund's largest holdings include Nvidia, Apple, Microsoft and Alphabet. It is looking to notch its first record close since June 2, when it closed at 259.94.
