Ethereum's Glamsterdam upgrade is scheduled to activate on the Hoodi testnet on October 26, with no mainnet date set. The Ethereum Foundation says Hoodi's gas limit will rise to 200 million at the same moment.
Ethereum developers scheduled Glamsterdam for the Hoodi test network on October 26 at epoch 132,352. The upgrade first activated on Sepolia on October 6, and client teams still have to pick a mainnet date.
Hoodi activation fixes the next trial
The Ethereum Foundation's October 16 announcement set the Hoodi activation for 17:42:48 UTC at slot 4,235,264. The Foundation says the gas limit will rise to 200 million at that epoch, matching Sepolia.
However, the schedule covers only the test network. The mainnet entry in the published activation table remains undecided, and a separate notice will cover mainnet activation.
Before the fork, Hoodi operators need execution and consensus client versions that explicitly support it. Nodes that keep applying the prior rules cannot follow the upgraded chain after the fork.
Two changes under test
EIP 7732 moves the exchange between proposers and builders into the consensus protocol. The proposer commits to a builder's payload, and the builder reveals it later under prescribed conditions. A payload timeliness committee adds a duty: members attest whether the payload was revealed on time.
A second change, EIP 7928, adds block access lists, a record of accounts and storage locations a block touches. With a verified list, clients can schedule reads and some validation work in parallel where operations do not conflict.
Repricing is part of the bundle too. The Foundation's historical replay of mainnet transactions found a small group of contracts relying on gas assumptions that may break or degrade. It says most flagged cases can be fixed with higher gas limits.
What a testnet can and cannot show
A testnet can show whether different clients and applications work together. It cannot by itself prove that mainnet will run a higher gas limit safely under real financial load.
As a result, the next steps are operational. Crypto.news lists among the items to watch the Hoodi activation, client agreement, builder timeliness and a separately announced mainnet epoch. Ordinary ETH holders need take no action because of the Hoodi announcement.
