Internet Computer's ICP token jumped 8.1% to $2.34 on August 10 on its strongest daily trading volume since July, pushing the price above its Ichimoku cloud. Caffeine AI and the proposed Mission 70 reforms could add fresh demand and slow issuance over time, though the network still carries a wide gap between coins minted and coins burned.
Internet Computer's ICP token jumped 8.1% to $2.34 on August 10, marking its strongest daily trading volume since July. The rally pushed the token above the Ichimoku cloud, an early sign that short-term momentum is turning higher. Longer term, the Caffeine AI platform and proposed reforms under Mission 70 could lift demand and cut new issuance, though the network still carries a wide gap between coins minted and coins burned.
ICP breaks above the Ichimoku cloud
ICP opened at $2.17 and climbed to $2.34 during the session. Trading volume rose to about 1.07 million ICP during the session. The Tenkan-sen near $2.18 crossed above the Kijun-sen around $2.17, reinforcing the bullish short-term signal.
On-Balance Volume climbed to -77.76 million; the reading stays negative, but its rise shows recent price gains have come with improving volume pressure. ICP now needs to hold the $2.17-$2.20 region to preserve the breakout structure. The next resistance sits near $2.40, and clearing it could open a move toward $2.60, where sellers previously entered the market. A drop back below the cloud, however, would weaken the breakout case.
Caffeine AI and Mission 70 target the supply gap
Caffeine lets users build and deploy applications on the Internet Computer through conversational prompts. Customer payments purchase ICP, which converts into the cycles that power those applications, and cycles get consumed as apps use network resources — removing that ICP from supply. That creates a direct economic link between Caffeine usage and ICP demand, though whether adoption can grow large enough to move tokenomics materially remains an open question.
Internet Computer's tokenomics dashboard shows about 2.85 million ICP burned historically. By comparison, around 63.96 million ICP has been minted through distributed voting maturity. Cumulative node-provider rewards stand at approximately 25.03 million ICP. The dashboard also records roughly 112.06 million ICP in undisbursed voting maturity, tokens that are not yet circulating supply but remain relevant to future issuance.
The proposed Mission 70 reforms address the other side of that equation. Its governance proposals include changes to staking and node-provider rewards. They also add measures intended to increase demand for ICP. Reducing issuance while increasing network-driven burns could improve ICP's supply dynamics over time, but the outcome depends on which proposals win approval, how they are implemented, and whether products like Caffeine generate meaningful network usage.
For now, cumulative data shows historical minting has substantially exceeded token burns. Caffeine and Mission 70 offer potential mechanisms for narrowing that gap, but neither has yet shown ICP moving toward sustained net deflation.
