Iran and Oman have agreed on the geographic coordinates for a shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz, Iran's Foreign Ministry says. The deal marks only a partial step toward reopening the strait for energy supplies, and officials caution it does not by itself guarantee security in the waterway or resolve the wider dispute involving Iran, Oman, the United States and Israel.

The two countries have agreed on the geographic coordinates for a shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said on Wednesday. A joint announcement between the two countries is now in its final stage, he added, provided outside parties do not interfere.

Baghaei clarified that the agreement does not, by itself, guarantee security in the strategic waterway. Access through the strait has been largely restricted since February 2026, and the deal with Oman represents only a potential, partial step toward reopening it for energy supplies. It does not yet mark a full resolution of the broader geopolitical disputes involving Iran, Oman, the United States and Israel.

The discussions between Tehran and Muscat point to managing vessel traffic under controlled conditions rather than a complete normalization of shipping activity. Baghaei also said Iran has no plans to send its foreign minister or parliament speaker to Pakistan or Qatar, though Tehran is exchanging views with both governments.

Market pricing now shows odds of a broader U.S.-Iran agreement restoring normal shipping traffic by August 15 rising to 67%. The announcement has sparked increased activity, reflecting optimism about a potential diplomatic breakthrough over the strait — even as Baghaei keeps expectations for security guarantees in check.
