Wallets linked to MARA Holdings deposited 1,000 BTC into Binance and Gate over five days, according to Lookonchain. The transfers raise the question of another sale, but no completed sale has been confirmed. The miner already cut its Bitcoin holdings sharply in the first half of 2026.
MARA Holdings wallets deposited 1,000 BTC worth approximately $82.8 million into the exchanges Binance and Gate over the past five days, Lookonchain reported on Oct. 19. The pattern suggests the company may be preparing to sell some of its holdings.
However, the transfers alone do not confirm a sale. MARA has not publicly established the purpose of the transactions, and the records do not show whether the funds were converted into cash, used for trading, or moved for another reason.
An earlier transfer went to Galaxy Digital
The deposits follow a transfer of 996.105 BTC worth approximately $81.13 million from a MARA-associated wallet to an address identified as belonging to Galaxy Digital on Oct. 8. That activity also did not establish whether Galaxy Digital bought the assets or received them under another arrangement.
MARA has said that wallet movements do not always mean sales. In its third-quarter 2025 shareholder letter, the company disclosed that it had begun actively managing a portion of its Bitcoin through trading activities, which could cause wallet balances to fluctuate.
MARA sold 23,093 BTC in the first half
The miner sold approximately 23,093 BTC for roughly $1.63 billion during the first half of 2026, according to its financial disclosures. Most of the selling came in the first quarter, when MARA disposed of 20,880 BTC at an average price of approximately $70,137 per coin.
As a result, MARA held 35,577 BTC on June 30, compared with 53,822 BTC at the end of December 2025. Its second-quarter shareholder letter said the company expected to continue monetizing Bitcoin when market conditions and capital requirements supported doing so.
Bitcoin also backs MARA's borrowing
In August, MARA pledged 18,750 BTC as initial collateral for two credit facilities that provided $600 million in new borrowing. The company has not disclosed whether the latest 1,000 BTC deposits relate to any of its existing financing arrangements.
