Crypto exchange MEXC will discontinue services for users in Russia and Belarus, giving affected customers individual deadlines to close positions and withdraw assets. The announcement names no regulator or sanctions measure behind the decision.
MEXC announced on Oct. 20 that it will discontinue services for users in Russia or Belarus, citing efforts to enhance global compliance. Affected customers will receive individual notifications setting out timelines and procedures for closing positions and withdrawing assets.
No common deadline for affected users
The announcement does not set a common trading cutoff or withdrawal deadline. MEXC said instructions would arrive through registered email and in-app messages, and that "Your assets remain secure."
Users who have not received a notification are not affected and can continue using MEXC subject to its terms of service, the exchange said. However, MEXC did not identify a specific regulator, sanctions measure or licensing action behind the decision, or disclose the number of affected accounts.
MEXC's user agreement, marked last updated Oct. 13, lists Russia and Belarus as prohibited jurisdictions. It also warned that it would never request payments, account credentials, seed phrases or asset transfers through private messages.
Bitget and the Netherlands
The move follows Bitget's Oct. 17 announcement that it would discontinue services for certain users. Crypto Briefing reported that Bitget added both countries to its list of prohibited areas, with withdrawal deadlines set for October 21, 2026.
MEXC had already tightened access earlier. In May 2026, it restricted new futures positions on selected pairs for users in Russia, Ukraine, Armenia and Belarus. Crypto Briefing also reported that the exchange is discontinuing operations in the Netherlands, with full offboarding of Dutch users set for November 16, 2026.
