Nvidia and Cisco confirmed multimillion-dollar donations to President Donald Trump's White House ballroom project. The Washington Post reported that Nvidia and Apple each pledged $25 million, and the donor list totaled more than $330 million.
Nvidia and Cisco have committed millions to President Donald Trump's White House ballroom renovation project, CNBC confirmed on Thursday. ServiceNow also confirmed a donation.
Nvidia and Apple lead the tech donors
Apple and Nvidia each pledged $25 million, according to a report from The Washington Post. Those were among the largest donations on a list that totaled more than $330 million.
An Nvidia spokesperson told CNBC: "our support for the United States is paramount, and independent of any business interests". Cisco and ServiceNow confirmed their $5 million donation.
Other companies and the donation structure
According to the Post, Amazon, Palantir, ServiceNow, Meta Platforms and Microsoft also made contributions in the millions. Microsoft and Meta declined to comment on the report.
The Post reported that the donations were sent through a nonprofit trust, and donors received a pledge form for the "Donald J. Trump Ballroom." The documents it obtained showed 67 contributions above $10,000 as of late September.
Lawmakers question possible influence
Lawmakers and experts have repeatedly called out the donations and requested information on the private donors. Some have also raised concerns over the potential influence these commitments could have on policy decisions or any federal contract awards.
ServiceNow said in a statement to CNBC that its business with the U.S. government is separate from any donations it makes. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg were central figures at the White House AI luncheon on Sept. 29.
