Nvidia has $18 billion committed to equity investments for the rest of its fiscal year, extending a dealmaking spree that has pushed the chipmaker beyond chips into AI infrastructure, models, and financing. CEO Jensen Huang has also claimed, during a March 2026 podcast appearance, that Nvidia has already achieved AGI, based on his own economic definition of the term.
Nvidia disclosed in its earnings report this week that it holds $47.9 billion in private companies as of late July, more than double the $22.3 billion it held at the end of the last fiscal year. The company has committed billions more since, spreading bets across AI model makers, infrastructure financiers, and chip startups.
Nvidia spreads its bets across the AI stack
As Amazon, Google, and Microsoft build their own chips, Nvidia is pushing into the infrastructure, software, and models that surround them. In August, Nvidia invested $1.5 billion in SB Energy and took a stake in Cloverleaf Infrastructure, two companies working on the data-center power crunch.
It also teamed up with Wall Street firms to raise more than $500 billion in outside funding for AI infrastructure and struck a multibillion-dollar deal with coding startup Poolside. Nvidia also disclosed a $2.94 billion cash payment tied to its Groq partnership. Nvidia CFO Colette Kress pushed back on criticism that the arrangement amounts to circular financing, telling investors on the earnings call that the company sees it differently.
Huang says Nvidia has already crossed the AGI line
During a March 2026 appearance on the Lex Fridman podcast, Huang declared: According to Crypto Briefing: "I think we've achieved AGI." His definition departs from the traditional standard of matching human cognitive ability across a wide range of tasks. Instead, Huang measures AGI by whether an AI agent can autonomously build a company worth over $1 billion.
Huang did add a caveat, putting the probability of 100,000 AI agents independently building something resembling Nvidia at zero percent. Nvidia posted $215.9 billion in revenue for fiscal 2026. By August 2026, its AVO coding agent had scored a perfect 100% on the ARC-AGI-3 benchmark, which tests reasoning and generalization.
