Individual investors have poured $27 billion in net purchases into Nvidia over the past year, more than any other Magnificent 7 stock, according to Vanda Research. The figure dwarfs retail inflows into Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet, Meta, and Tesla, and at times has pushed Nvidia's share of typical retail investor portfolios above 10%.

Retail investors aren't being subtle about their favorite AI bet. Over the trailing year, individual investors have accumulated $27 billion in net purchases of Nvidia stock, making it the undisputed leader among the Magnificent 7 group of mega-cap tech companies. That figure, tracked by Vanda Research, dwarfs the retail inflows into Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet, Meta, and Tesla over the same period.

Nvidia dominates the retail flow data

Vanda Research specializes in tracking US retail equity flows and is widely used by institutional investors to gauge market positioning. According to Vanda Research: "retail king" is how the firm has repeatedly flagged Nvidia, documenting multi-hundred-million-dollar single-day net inflows into the stock, with purchases stacking up quarter after quarter. At various points, Nvidia's weight in typical retail investor portfolios exceeded 10%.

The Magnificent 7 collectively dominate retail trading activity, but the gap between Nvidia and its peers has been pronounced. Apple and Microsoft remain staples of individual portfolios, yet neither has attracted the same magnitude of fresh capital that Nvidia continues to pull in.

Rotations toward Tesla haven't dented the lead

The retail love affair hasn't been entirely one-sided. Vanda Research has noted periodic rotations in retail capital toward other names, with Tesla the most notable beneficiary during certain stretches. However, those rotations have been temporary.

Zoomed out across the full trailing year, Nvidia's cumulative lead remains commanding. The $27 billion in net purchases represents sustained conviction rather than a single buying frenzy, and institutional investors actively monitor this retail flow data from platforms like VandaTrack to anticipate volatility in high-profile stocks.
