Ripple has updated its XRP Ledger AI Starter Kit to version 1.1, adding support for the Machine Payments Protocol built by Stripe and Tempo. The update lets AI agents pay for online services with XRP and RLUSD and manage wallets across multiple blockchains through a shared interface. The payment software remains in beta, and Ripple names no customers using it commercially yet.
Ripple backs a second AI payment standard
Ripple has released version 1.1 of its XRP Ledger AI Starter Kit, adding support for the Machine Payments Protocol, or MPP, a standard co-authored by Stripe and Tempo, a payments-focused blockchain. Tempo launched its own mainnet in March 2026. The update also integrates the Open Wallet Standard, which lets software manage wallets across multiple blockchains through a common interface, according to a RippleX developer post.
According to RippleX head of product Jazzi Cooper: "Our job is to make XRP and RLUSD first-class options wherever developers are building." RLUSD is Ripple's dollar-pegged stablecoin.
Ripple backed a rival standard, x402, in June and now backs MPP too, rather than betting on one over the other. Under MPP, a service responds to a request with a price, the agent authorizes payment, and the service delivers the resource.
A channel built for repeated micro-payments
The starter kit's XRP payment channels let an agent deposit XRP once and run hundreds of paid queries, authorizing a little more spending after each answer so the provider collects the accumulated total without putting every query on the ledger. Individual payments already support issued tokens such as RLUSD, but extending that session feature to stablecoins depends on a proposed ledger upgrade. The payment software remains in beta, and Ripple's announcement names no customers using the MPP integration commercially.
Building on an existing x402 integration
The update extends work Ripple already did with x402, a rival open-payment protocol that also counts Stripe, Coinbase and Cloudflare among its supporters. That integration runs through partner t54 and lets AI systems pay for API access and other digital services with XRP or RLUSD, and it has processed an estimated 75 million to 120 million machine-to-machine transactions in recent months. Ripple has also joined Mastercard's Agent Pay for Machines program, a consortium of more than 30 industry partners that includes Stripe and Coinbase.
