Ripple Chief Technology Officer Emeritus David Schwartz personally called out a fake Xaman wallet airdrop scam on X, triggering a wave of user reports that got the fraudulent thread suspended. Security in the retail sector still depends heavily on the personal vigilance of asset holders and the rapid manual response of senior figures like Schwartz.

David Schwartz stepped directly into a scammers' comment thread on X to shut down another scam scheme targeting XRP users. Rather than issuing a corporate statement, the XRP Ledger architect posted a pair of text GIFs mocking the scammers, one of them reading "This is a scam."

The posts appeared under a hacked account belonging to culture magazine "NplusOneMag," where scammers had launched an aggressive promotional campaign for a fake airdrop. Schwartz's intervention became a call to action for the community, and users flooded the platform's administration with reports.

Manual reporting shut the scam down

The pressure from user reports helped get the fraudulent thread completely blocked before unsuspecting investors had time to lose funds. For Schwartz, this response is routine. His profile has carried a pinned warning for months stating that anyone claiming to be him on Instagram or Telegram is a scammer.

Across the XRP Ledger ecosystem, attacks targeting wallets have become systematic. Scammers use the mechanics of hidden trading offers through NFT spam campaigns, and once a user approves a transaction chasing a supposed bonus, the malicious transaction can drain their entire XRP balance.

Security still depends on personal vigilance

Retail-sector security still depends heavily on the personal vigilance of asset holders and the rapid manual response of the company's senior figures. Scammers keep creating mirror accounts, and developers keep getting them blocked.
