Former Ripple CTO David Schwartz says his influence on the XRP price is minimal but not zero. He answered a user on X amid community anger over XRP's price slump, and also explained why he now blocks hostile replies.
David Schwartz, former chief technology officer of Ripple and one of the original XRP Ledger architects, responded to claims that he is partly to blame for XRP's poor performance. A user on X challenged him about his possible impact on the token's price.
According to Schwartz: "I guess probably not nothing. But very little," he answered when asked whether he could honestly say he has nothing to do with the price.
XRP has lost roughly 50% in a year
The exchange follows mounting anger in the XRP community over the token's price slump. Per CoinMarketCap data, XRP has declined roughly 50% over the past year. The token saw several temporary spikes in that period, but the overall trend pointed down.
Stellar (XLM) has seen a very similar price trend over the same period.
Schwartz explains why he blocks critics
The reply came after a long post in which Schwartz lamented the rise in hostile replies he receives on X. He said some users follow him into other discussions and label him a fraud or criticize his work on XRP.
Schwartz has decided to block such users, and the decision affects critics and fans alike. Even a positive comment about XRP in an unsuitable place could get a user blocked. He said he has no issue with honest criticism backed by good arguments, and he offered to unblock users who commit to stop hijacking unrelated discussions.
Schwartz keeps ties to Ripple
Schwartz stepped away from his day-to-day duties at Ripple at the end of 2025, after working at the firm for over a decade. Earlier this month, he clarified that he remains on Ripple's board of directors and holds the honorary title of CTO Emeritus. He also said he still meets with his old team twice a month.
