Michael Saylor broke his silence after Strategy sold another 1,638 BTC in the past week, its third such sale in recent months, insisting he has never personally sold a single coin. The Strategy chairman drew a line between his own holdings and the public company's capital moves, which also included a preferred-share buyback and a broader debt cleanup.

Michael Saylor broke his silence after Strategy sold another 1,638 BTC in the past week, the company's third bitcoin sale in the past few months. The Strategy chairman said his often-repeated call to never sell bitcoin was written for savers, not for a public company that discloses its right to trade the asset.

Saylor separates himself from the company

Saylor said that as an individual investor, he has never sold a single BTC, but that Strategy is a public company rather than his personal wallet. He explained the distinction directly: "Since 2020, it has disclosed it may buy or sell BTC to manage capital." The latest sale builds on the 3,588 BTC units Strategy sold at the end of June.

The company also used part of the proceeds to repurchase more of its own STRC shares. That reinforced the preferred stock's price, which has climbed to $92 — still below its $100 par value, but sharply higher than its recent low of $75.

Cash reserves climb to $4 billion

According to Crypto Briefing, the sale brought in about $104.7 million and lifted Strategy's cash reserves to $4 billion, up from $3.2 billion. About $81 million of the proceeds went toward repurchasing preferred shares and paying dividends on the STRC preferred stock, while the company separately raised $290.6 million through common stock sales over the same period. After the sale, Strategy still holds 842,138 BTC.

A broader debt cleanup

The bitcoin sales sit inside a wider restructuring push. In May 2026, Strategy repurchased $1.5 billion in 0% convertible senior notes due 2029 for $1.38 billion, a discount funded from existing cash rather than new bitcoin purchases. The company has also begun reporting net exposure figures that account for senior claims like preferred stock and convertible debt, instead of just its total BTC held.

Strategy has been the largest corporate bitcoin holder for years, and its buying has at times moved markets. If it keeps shifting from net buyer to occasional seller, that removes a reliable source of demand that traders have come to expect.
