The SEC has approved six futures-based ETPs offering three times the daily performance of Bitcoin, Ether, gold, silver, crude oil and natural gas. The products, built by Volatility Shares, still need a separate registration statement to take effect before trading can start.
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has approved a Cboe BZX rule change allowing six new futures-based ETPs targeting three times the daily performance of Bitcoin, Ether, and four commodities. Investors, however, will still have to wait for a final registration before trading can begin.
Six Products Span Crypto and Commodities
On 2nd October 2026, the SEC approved products from Volatility Shares' VS Trust for listing and trading, placing crypto and traditional commodities in the same lineup. The group covers a 3x Bitcoin ETF and 3x Ether ETF, a 3x Gold and 3x Silver pair, and 3x Crude Oil and 3x Natural Gas ETPs.
These funds aim to deliver three times the asset's daily price move. So, if the asset rises 1%, the fund could rise about 3%; if it falls 1%, the fund could also fall about 3%. None of the six will physically hold Bitcoin, Ether, metal bars, or barrels of oil. Instead, the products will use regulated futures contracts, with the Bitcoin and Ether ETPs tracking CME Group futures prices.
Balchunas Calls It a Win for Volatility Shares
Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas called the approval a "big win" for Volatility Shares, which already runs the first 2x Bitcoin ETF (BITX) and 2x Ether ETF (ETHU). According to Eric Balchunas: "Wow. Big win for VolatilityShares." He also noted that less than three years ago, the SEC was still fighting Grayscale over its spot Bitcoin ETF.
The new approval gives Volatility Shares a path to offer triple-leveraged crypto products on top of its existing double-leveraged lineup.
Registration Still Pending
The products still need a separate Form S-1 registration statement to become effective before trading can begin. SEC staff must declare the registration effective before the public tickers can start trading on brokerages. The current filings do not provide a specific date for when that registration will take effect.
