The Sensex climbed 943.67 points to 72,536.91 on Friday, a day after a rout erased more than ₹10 lakh crore from market value. Tata Consultancy Services led the rebound after posting a 15% jump in quarterly profit, while easing crude oil prices added to the relief.
TCS earnings drive an IT-led rebound
The Sensex gained 943.67 points, or 1.32%, to close at 72,536.91 on Friday, opening 183.43 points higher and extending gains through the session. Larger stocks led the advance: the S&P BSE 100 rose 1.31% and the S&P BSE 150 Midcap Index gained 1.26%, while the S&P BSE 250 Smallcap Index added a smaller 0.54%.
Tata Consultancy Services gained more than 4% on the NSE, a day after posting its second-quarter results. The stock stood at ₹2,161 at 12:21 pm, up ₹85, or 4.09%, against Thursday's close of ₹2,076, having climbed as far as ₹2,204 during the session. The Nifty IT index rose 3% after TCS reported a 15% jump in second-quarter profit to ₹13,884 crore. Despite the rally, TCS has lost close to 29% in 12 months and nearly 33% so far in 2026, against a roughly 14% decline in the Nifty 50 over the same stretch.
Oil eases on Trump's Iran comments
The rebound also drew support from softer crude prices. President Donald Trump said the US will not strike Iran before the November 3 midterms and described talks as productive, pulling Brent below $103 a barrel. US Treasury yields eased too, with the 10-year at 5.2%.
Index still below key averages
Despite Friday's advance, the Sensex remains below its 50-day moving average, which itself trades under the 200-day average. The index now sits about 1.72% above its 52-week low of 71,292.88. Market watchers flagged Nifty's closing strength, confirmation from Bank Nifty, FII and DII flows, and crude oil prices as the signals to watch before calling the sell-off over, noting that a single positive session does not yet confirm a change in trend.
