US Vice President JD Vance said trade talks with Canada are still underway, even as the United States pushes for equitable terms. Speaking in Maine, he described last-minute demands from Canada and said he still expects a deal.

US Vice President JD Vance said Monday that trade discussions between Washington and Ottawa remain in progress as the United States pushes for equitable terms.

Speaking to an audience in Brewer, Maine, Vance addressed the current state of negotiations with Canada's government. According to Investing.com: "They came in with a bunch of unreasonable last-minute demands," Vance told the audience.

Vance said he still expects the two sides to reach a deal, but added that he wants to send a clear message to Canada's prime minister to stop taking advantage of Maine and of the United States, saying Washington expects fairness in its trade policy.

The vice president's comments indicate that talks between the two countries continue despite apparent disagreements over terms.
