XRP's 50-day moving average now sits about 2% below its 200-day average, the closest gap since its last golden cross in August 2024. Bitcoin's dominance has slipped to a one-month low as traders rotate into altcoins, even as XRP's own crossover signals stay mixed depending on which moving averages are used.

XRP is closing in on a golden cross, the tightest gap between its 50-day and 200-day moving averages since August 2024.

History urges caution

XRP has flashed this pattern before, and the record is mixed. None of its 16 previous golden crosses lasted even 12 months, each eventually undone by a death cross. Six of those 16 didn't even survive three months.

But the crosses that held longer often paid off. Five of the ten crosses that reached the three-month mark posted gains ranging from 85% to more than 1,000%, including a 1,009.6% run after the April 2017 cross and a 135% gain following the February 2021 cross. The other five lost as much as 32%.

Bitcoin's dominance slips as altcoins rotate

Bitcoin has weathered a week marked by the Clarity Act setback and a Federal Reserve rate increase, trading near $78,000, roughly unchanged from a week earlier. Yet its dominance rate has dropped to a one-month low of under 59%, and coins including UNI, NEAR and ARB have surged nearly 30% in 24 hours.

According to Alex Kuptsikevich, chief market analyst at FxPro: "Altcoins have accelerated sharply while the majors lag." He added that neither the altcoin season index nor market sentiment has yet reached high levels.

A different crossover, and a conflicting signal

Crypto Briefing frames the setup differently. XRP's 50-day simple moving average was sitting near $1.197, closing in on the 150-day SMA at about $1.238 — a shorter combination than the classic 50/200 crossover. At the same time, the 50-day EMA stood at $1.286 against a 200-day EMA of $1.3539, keeping XRP in death-cross territory on that longer measure.

XRP was trading between $1.33 and $1.35, pulling back slightly from about $1.39 on September 8 but still well above August lows near $1.00. Analyst targets cluster around $1.50 to $1.70 as the first resistance zone. If XRP fails to hold above $1.33 and the moving averages converge back rather than cross, the setup dissolves; a failure to confirm the breakout at $1.50 could push price back toward $1.20 to $1.25, where both moving averages currently sit.
