Bitcoin's long-term holders are buying again, pushing the LTH Net Position Change to its highest level in six years even as the price trades in a downtrend. CryptoQuant data puts the metric at 1.29 million BTC on May 24, 2026, above its 2017 peak.
Bitcoin's long-term holders are stacking coins at a pace not seen in six years, according to onchain data from CryptoQuant, even as the price keeps trading lower.
The Long-Term Holder Net Position Change reached 1.29 million BTC over a 30-day period on May 24, 2026, its largest green reading in over six years. That figure surpassed the previous record set during the 2017 bull market, sparking questions about whether a new bull market is near.
This metric tracks how much long-term investors added to or reduced from their holdings over the past month, and these holders are known for keeping their positions through different market cycles. A red reading suggests holders are selling, while a high green reading points to an aggressive accumulation phase.
Unlike previous cycles, this accumulation arrived while Bitcoin traded near its weakest levels. Speculative traders had distributed their holdings, yet long-term holders bought instead, suggesting seasoned investors treated the downturn as a chance to buy and hold rather than a reason to exit.
The buying sparked a 15% rebound, lifting Bitcoin from about $58,000 to $66,000.
Because heavy accumulation typically reduces the amount of Bitcoin available for sale, CryptoQuant suggests the asset could rally toward $70,000 if the buying persists.
