U.S. spot ETF shares tracking XRP are surging twice as fast as the token itself, with some funds up 16%-17% against a 7%-8% intraday move in XRP. The imbalance comes even as the ETF sector posted net outflows, while XRP separately broke out of a multi-week consolidation range amid a broader crypto rally.
Spot XRP ETFs listed on the NYSE and Nasdaq are rising twice as fast as the token itself. CryptoQuant analyst Xaif_Crypto first flagged the anomaly, noting all seven U.S. spot XRP ETFs traded in the green during the session, with interim volume of $19.7 million.
ETF share prices break away from spot XRP
XRP itself traded around $1.44, up 7.04% over 24 hours, confirming a breakout from its descending channel and a rebound from the August low of $1.00. Funds from Bitwise and Franklin Templeton moved roughly in line with that move, gaining 8.47% and 8.36% respectively.
But funds with lower net assets broke sharply away from the spot price. Grayscale's XXRP climbed 17.10%, while XRPT and UXRP gained 16.78% and 17.01%. The divergence is likely tied to a local supply-and-demand distortion in order books, where the sharp move in XRP may have triggered a short-term shortage of sellers in thinner funds, pushing share prices to a premium over net asset value — letting those ETFs outperform the token's daily advance by around 100%.
Money isn't chasing the rally
The premium is building without new capital behind it. SoSoValue data shows the sector closed the previous session with $7.20 million in net outflows, all of it profit-taking concentrated in Bitwise's fund, against total daily volume of $27.22 million across the group. U.S. XRP ETFs currently hold $1.42 billion, equal to 1.67% of XRP's market cap. Cumulative inflows since launch have topped $1.68 billion.
XRP breaks out from a multi-week range
Separately, XRP was changing hands at $1.46, up 10% over 24 hours, as Bitcoin's push above $80,000 spilled into altcoins. The token broke out of a $1.36 consolidation zone to clear $1.42, with cumulative volume delta reversing from a $4.0 million deficit toward just $1.0 million, pointing to heavy accumulation. Analyst ChartNerd flagged the 50-week EMA at $1.53 as the next level to clear on a weekly close.
The token's institutional backing has been building too. XRP posted a 28.5% gain in August, its best month since 2021. U.S. spot XRP ETFs pulled in a record $1.66 billion in cumulative inflows through last week.
