STOXX, an index provider owned by Deutsche Börse Group, created the EURO STOXX 50, a stock index of Eurozone stocks. France and Germany currently lead the index as of April 2021. Its purpose is "to provide a blue-chip representation of Supersector leaders in the Eurozone," according to STOXX. It consists of fifty of the world's most valuable and liquid stocks. The EURO STOXX 50 index futures and options traded on Eurex are among the most liquid products in Europe and the world. The EURO STOXX 50 was introduced on February 26, 1998. Its composition is evaluated once a year, in September. The index is available in a variety of currency and return variants.
The Euro Stoxx 50 index is made up of fifty of the largest and most liquid stocks in the Eurozone.
The euro is the European Union's monetary unit and currency, denoted by the sign €. It was first introduced as a non cash monetary unit in 1999, then as currency notes and coins in 2002. The euro replaced the currencies of participating EU countries as well as certain non-EU countries.
